At Allergy Nutritionist, we do not perform food allergy testing directly, but we offer guidance on the types of food allergy tests available, how to interpret your results, and how to use those results to build a balanced, sustainable nutrition plan.

Whether you’re seeking support for a child’s first reaction or are an adult navigating new or worsening symptoms, we are here to support you before and after diagnosis. Our team includes a registered dietitian for allergies who provides nutrition consultations for allergies and helps clients develop effective, personalized strategies to manage their diagnosis long-term.

Types of Food Allergy Tests

We help prepare clients for upcoming testing, while explaining the limitations of allergy testing:

  1. Skin Prick Testing (SPT)
    This test involves placing small amounts of potential allergens on the skin and lightly pricking the surface. A reaction (such as swelling or redness) may indicate an allergy. Skin prick testing is often used for common allergens such as nuts, dairy, eggs, and environmental triggers like pollen.

     

  2. IgE Blood Testing
    This test measures the presence of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in the blood in response to specific foods. Elevated IgE levels can suggest an allergic response. This method is often used when skin testing isn’t possible, is inconclusive, or if a physician finds it beneficial to have alongside SPT results.

     

  3. Elimination Diets & Food Challenges
    Under a physician’s guidance and/or supervision, and with support of a registered dietitian, foods are systematically removed and reintroduced to help identify allergic triggers. We support clients on elimination diets with allergy-friendly meal planning and symptom management.

     

  4. Age-Specific Testing: Kids & Adults
    Children and adults require different approaches when it comes to food allergy testing. As a dietitian for kids with allergies, we understand the emotional and nutritional complexities of managing allergies in young children. We collaborate with pediatric allergists and parents to ensure testing and follow-up care are developmentally appropriate and supportive of healthy growth.

    Adults may develop new allergies or need retesting due to changing immune responses. We support adults navigating new food sensitivities or seeking help from a nutritionist for food allergies.​​​​
